COURSE OVERVIEW

B.Des. (Luxury Design) - Course Structure

Year 1 ( Sem - 1 & 2 )
➢First year is categorically the foundation year focusing on studying interdisciplinary studio learnings to grasp the fundamentals of design and interior trends.
➢It introduces the student to the world of art and design through art appreciation, material study and basics of design.
➢The students focus on conceptualization and critical thinking through various classroom activities.

Year 2 ( Sem-3 & 4 )
➢Second year creates a learning environment in which seeds of research, analysis and conceptualization skills are nurtured.
➢ In this year, overview of the luxury industry, its history, and the key principles of luxury product design. Students will learn about the importance of craftsmanship, exclusivity, and attention to detail in luxury design.

Year 3 ( Sem - 5 & 6 )
➢Third year focuses on exploring the different materials and techniques used in luxury product design.
➢Students will learn about the characteristics of luxury materials such as precious metals, gemstones, exotic woods, and fine leathers. ➢They will also study traditional craftsmanship techniques and innovative manufacturing processes. Through extensive research, students build their original design philosophy.

Year 3 ( Sem - 7 and 8 )
➢Final year gives students a scope to manage their own learnings in form of final Design project.
➢The course explores the concept of sustainable luxury and how designers can integrate environmentally-friendly practices into luxury product design.
➢Students will learn about ethical sourcing, responsible manufacturing, and the use of sustainable materials in luxury design.

Industry- Academics Partnership
The Product design student has the opportunity to learn and hone their design skills while working on modules that are set in a hybrid model of practical - industrial -classroom situations through projects with prestigious brands/partners like Aditya Birla, Nida Mehmood, Shilpi Gupta, Surkhab, Pankaj and Nidhi, Shoppers Stop, and many more.
International Competitions part of the program learning
In the course of their undergraduate studies over the course of 4 years, all Product design students participate in 2 international competitions. The two contests are in line with the program's learning objectives, which are subtly woven into the curriculum to expose students to design competitions.

Internship
DIA students must perform a four-months internship as part of their curriculum. Through their selection of internships at leading design firms, students have the chance to learn about various facets of the Indian Interior design industry. The internship gives them practical experience, develops their professional network, and gives them exposure to portfolio presentations. Each student receives guidance from a DIA faculty mentor who ensures that their learning goals are reached.

Blend of AI and Sustainability
The right fusion of technological and empathetic skills is a key component of the B.Des in Interior design. The curriculum gives students the chance to learn about the most recent advancements in AI, AR, and VR, which will help them create future ready Interiors and tackle major design issues. To equip students with cutting-edge design abilities, AI in design is being introduced at the foundational level.

70% Practical Curriculum
With 70% practical exposure, the B.Des in Interior design curriculum is the most advanced curriculum for learning and fostering design process. DIA offers 22 labs that are enriched in offering latest technology, hands on material experience, and design thinking for an amplified learning process.

International Faculty - Student Exchange
Cross culture, Primary research, experience of different social structures, are few key components of studying Interior design and to foster them, DIA opens to all its student an opportunity to participate in international exchange programs with world’s best design universities or colleges across globe. In addition to exchange program, DIA brings to the classroom a pool of international faculty to deliver a module or workshop every year in DIA campus in Delhi NCR.

Ms. Apoorva Vijh - Program Leader Luxury
She is post-graduate from MIP Politecnico di Milano Business School / S P Jain Global School ( International Masters in Luxury Goods and Services Management). She completed her graduation from NIFT Hyderabad, specializing in Accessory Design. Also, having a Diploma in Jewellery Manufacturing & Technology from the Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery, Delhi. She has also completed a Certificate Program in comprehensive CAD & CAM for designing and manufacturing from GIA Carlsbad (Gemological Institute of America, Carlsbad) California. She has 10 years of work experience in the Design industry . She has worked with brands such a P C JEWELLERS, (SRK GROUP), IMAGINARIUM, AND TITAN. Her teaching experience includes connect with NIFT- Mumbai, Lemark School of Art ( Mumbai ), GIA – MUMBAI and ARCH COLLEGE OF DESIGN AND BUSINESS.

Dr. Paul Yuille, Managing Director
Dr Paul Yuille has over two decades of experience within the creative industries, with expertise in sustainable fashion and international development. Paul runs a multidisciplinary consultancy where he drives positive change through utilising sustainable design solutions and educational development. His research into sustainable consumption theory, investigates ways in which consumers can recognise their own agency and contribute to help solve the global challenges we now all face. Paul is also the Program Leader of the MA in International Retail Business, Sustainability and Technologies at Goldsmiths University of London.

Ms. Neerja Palisetty, founder of Sutrakaar Creations
She is a Textile Innovator with 22 years of experience and she has been successful in setting up a trend to use hand-woven paper textile products in India and abroad. Years of experience with the Industry and Education Sector. Taking ahead my research on Paper weaving, I have refined my Skills and Knowledge in Weaving and Design Development while working with Artisans at various levels. My keen interest lies in promoting handloom textiles, weavers and Sustainable Design.
